The disused cooling towers of Unit 2 of Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station, Pennsylvania.  The partial core meltdown in Unit 2 of the pressurized water reactor in 1979 was the worst accident in the history of American commercial nuclear power.  Although there were no immediate deaths or injuries to plant workers or members of the public,  the accident put an end to new nuclear construction in the US.
